Overview
RILA's Chief Legal Officer (CLO) Committee convenes the top lawyer or legal pyramid head of each of RILA’s retail member companies. CLOs have a wide range of responsibilities within their companies that begin with their organization’s legal and litigation needs but include direct counsel to the CEO and the company’s board of directors and often additionally include responsibility for functions such as compliance, risk, government relations, privacy, security, asset protection and many other areas.
The Chief Legal Officer Committee provides an opportunity for the top legal executives of the retail industry to learn from each other and to benchmark at an executive level on strategic issues. The CLO Committee’s activities include two in-person meetings each year, an annual survey of retail legal department structures, periodic benchmarking surveys, and conference calls as needed.
RILA members have full access to past meeting presentations, reports and benchmarking results.
For more information on RILA's Chief Legal Officer Committee, please contact Deborah White, General Counsel and Senior Executive Vice President of RILA at deborah.white@rila.org.

The RILA Chief Legal Officer Committee addresses the broad array of legal, operational and policy challenges that retail companies face and provides advice and direction to RILA on strategies to assist retailers in meeting these challenges.
