John Standley
Executive Vice President, Walgreens Boots Alliance & President
As executive vice president, WBA and president of Walgreens, John Standley oversees all of Walgreens operations and is responsible for the development, growth and management of the business as the company continues to build on its leadership in the rapidly evolving healthcare sector. Standley also leads the ongoing acceleration and implementation of Walgreens’ four overarching priorities — creating neighborhood health care destinations, reimagining the company’s retail offering, digitalizing Walgreens’ business and managing costs and investments.
Previously, Standley served as president, chief executive officer and chairman of Rite Aid Corp. as part of a long tenure with the company in various leadership roles. Among his accomplishments, Standley led Rite Aid’s transformation from a traditional drug store chain into a health and wellness company through various programs and initiatives, including the development and launch of its loyalty program and wellness format stores as well as its acquisitions of a fully capable PBM, a population management company, retail clinics and digital healthcare capabilities.
Prior to Rite Aid, Standley served as chief executive officer and board member of Pathmark Stores, Inc. and held executive financial positions at several other grocery and retail companies. He is a former chairman of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) and previously served on the boards of CarMax, Inc. and Supervalu, Inc.
Standley received a Bachelor of Science from Pepperdine University.
