- Packaging EPR: What Every Retailer Needs to Know
Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation has passed in four states (California, Colorado, Maine and Oregon) with many more expected to introduce legislation in the near future. These programs will impact every retailer through both private label and national brand packaging choices. We have reached a critical juncture where retailers must play a leadership role in shaping the direction of packaging EPR.
In this webinar, RILA and Multistate provided a high-level briefing of the status of packaging EPR legislation in states and its implications for retail operations and compliance. Attendees learned what has passed, what we might see in 2023, and the key concepts where an active retail viewpoint is needed most, including, but not limited to, fee collection, cost sharing, and ensuring incentives for sustainable packaging attributes and design. The briefing also detailed RILA’s development of a retailer-led, public-facing viewpoint of retail priorities ahead of the 2023 state legislative cycle.
