“Retail is a dynamic, multifaceted industry that supports more than 50 million American jobs. Our reach extends from every storefront and distribution center to the kitchens, garages, living rooms and back yards of every home in America,” said Michael Hanson, RILA senior executive vice president, public affairs. “As President-elect Trump and Congress get to work, leading retailers are ready to be partners in advancing policies that continue to allow retailers to invest in their employees and the communities they call home.”
Specifically, RILA will advocate for:
- Maintaining the corporate tax rate at 21% to keep America’s economy leading the pack
- Promote trade policies that protect our national interests and the homeland without burdening American families with new costs on everyday essentials
- Ensuring supply chains are resilient and free of costly disruptions
- Removing outdated and burdensome regulations that impede a dynamic and flexible 21st century workforce while pursuing policies that reimagine outdated labor laws
- Securing robust privacy protections for consumers while allowing the development and creation of new technologies that advance the retail shopping experience
- Challenging the dominant legacy players on Wall Street to bring more competition to the payments arena
- Collaboration between federal, state and local law enforcement to combat criminal networks engaged in organized retail crime, cargo theft and gift care fraud schemes
