“The Trump administration has imposed broad-based tariffs that touch every country and every industry, causing disruption and uncertainty in the markets and with consumers. Retailers are eager to hear from Ambassador Greer how, with these tariffs in place, the administration will make household goods more affordable for American families who have suffered through a historic bout of inflation,” said Blake Harden, RILA’s Vice President, International Trade.
“Americans elected President Trump to lower inflation and grow the economy. Instead, these broad-based tariffs threaten family pocketbooks and risk destabilizing confidence in the economy. For example, a mom looking to buy a new onesie for her newborn could face a tax as high as 93%, a new handbag could be levied rates as high as 96%, and paper plates to avoid dishes while in the newborn phase: a 684% tariff. We encourage Congress to seek answers from Mr. Greer to better understand the administration’s strategy to protect American families as they seek resolution to these trade disputes—particularly with long-time allies and friendly trading partners.”
